The Lace Guild Northern Ireland
Mrs Thelma Goldring co-founded the Lace Guild of Northern Ireland in 1988 and has been its Life President since that date. The aim of the Guild is to keep the lace tradition alive in Northern Ireland through tuition, speaker and research.
Through the Churchill Fellowship, Thelma travelled to Burano, an island off Venice in 1983, to research the similarities of Venetian and Clones lace. Venetian lace being a needle lace and Clones lace being a crochet lace. This was a wonderful experience.
Over the last 18 years Thelma has always given of her talents taking many workshops in Limerick, Carrickmacross,Clones, Irish and many other laces; her aim has always been to promote lace making. Many awards have been acheived by her at the Royal Dublin Show, Craft Section, and in the Women's Institute Craft Awards. Latterly Thelma judged the Lace Section at the RDS.
The Guild produced a book for the 15th anniversary 'Lace and Lacemaking in Ireland', the front cover showing a Clones Lace collar worked by Thelma.
